Poppy Rocks was founded in 2005 with a mission to create beautiful jewellery made from specialist materials sourced worldwide during the designer’s travels. Determined to produce hand made one off jewels to be treasured, Poppy’s bold unique colourful designs quickly found a loyal international following that has continued to grow through word of mouth.
Our designer travels extensively to source beautiful and unique stones from all corners of the world and relishes learning from skilled craftsmen during these travels. By searching out talent worldwide through her designs, stone cutters in India, shell divers in Belize, and generations of silversmiths in Mexico she has been able to unite a unique spectrum of talent that works across the continents. She strives to ensure her pieces remain soulful in all ways whilst capturing the spirit of the women she designs for. The style and originality of our jewels and quality of the materials used are best showcased by the indefinable uniqueness of every gorgeous person who wears them.
We like to concentrate on unique designs you won’t find elsewhere, pieces that last and can be handed down, with stories behind the stones and design attached. Each piece is hand made and the process behind each piece is a slave of love. We believe the uniqueness of such pieces adds to their beauty and fills the gap between mass produced jewellery tat and out of reach gems.
Each purchase comes with it’s own gorgeous packaging, which is locally handmade in Mexico, and a beautiful printed small booklet with information on our jewellery. Poppy Rocks has a passion to combine affordable luxury with a world of colour and beauty found in the smallest details- collectable pieces to adore which have a distinctive style and which you can’t help falling in love with again and again.
Poppy Reeve-Tucker- Founder/ Designer
Poppy initially studied Accessories at the London College of Fashion but hats and bags didn’t suit so she transferred to a BA in Sculpture and Writing in Bath. She pursued her dream to travel and trained and worked as a scuba diver in her early twenties. Living in Asia she was captivated by the underwater world and inspired by local craftsmen fashioning accessories from natural materials.
Returning to London she worked alongside games genius Demis Hassabis for four years as his personal assistant learning the machinations of a creative business. During this time she began to make one-off pieces of jewellery and word started to spread about her designs. Leaving London for life on a marina in Guatemala she found herself surrounded by skilled jewellers who she studied alongside. Then she discovered Mexico…
She initially started Poppy Rocks after travelling into Mexico and finding a country which embraced hand made artisan work which reminded her of all the incredible jewels her grandmother’s used to collect on their travels- plus she had a dream about a whaleshark covered in gems but that’s another story. She took a loan from the Princes Trust, bought a bag of stones and set about following her vision to produce one off stylish jewels with soul, little pieces of art to be adored.
She lives in Mexico City and continues to travel extensively to source all materials used. She works on commissions for private clients worldwide and in 2012 is producing three new lines for retail.
